Lawrences of Crewkerne features an intriguing selection in its Collectors, Sporting & Textiles auction on September 11.
The most popular and valuable make is Louis Vuitton, with estimates reflecting that, but plenty of other makes are available at a wide range of price points.

Continental traveller

This early 20th century Louis Vuitton large canvas and leather trimmed trunk (pictured top), with wooden slatted base and wheels, is estimated at £600-1000.

Featuring an internal tray and quilted interior, leather carrying handles to each side, and metal lock plate and catches, it has a label inside: Louis Vuitton, Paris, Nice, Lille, London, and also marked on the lock plate with a number 48141 and catch 70 Champs Elysees, London, Louis Vuitton, New Bond St, London.

A 19th century leather hat box - estimate £40-60 at Lawrences of Crewkerne on September 11.

A 19th century leather hat box with brass lock plate and catches, with a leather carrying handle and stamped initials to the lid, is estimated at £40-60. Featuring a label inside for T Evins, Practical Portmanteau, Trunk and Bag Manufacturer, 262 High St, Exeter, the box is 35cm high x 38cm across x 31cm.

Jumbo luggage

Pair of elephant pannier trunks - estimate £100-200 at Lawrences of Crewkerne on September 11.

An interesting pair of heavy-duty, leather trunks owned by a Lt Col Gould, with metal clasps and leather straps and carrying handles, is on offer estimated at £100-200.

They were designed for use as pannier trunks on each side of an elephant. One trunk is marked Peshawar, and they include vintage luggage labels including GWR Bath etc. They each measure 73cm across.

All steamed up but ready to go

This hefty steamer travelling trunk/wardrobe is estimated at £60-100. The hard exterior has a leather carrying handle on one end and the interior includes a variety of compartments and hanging space.

Marked to the top, Major F A Mundy R E, HW Mov Control, Harwich, the trunk is 91cm x 54cm (92cm high when on end).

Yes Dear

A large leather trunk by A W Dear offered together with a large leather suitcase by the same maker and another vintage suitcase - estimate £100-150 at Lawrences of Crewkerne on September 11.

A large leather trunk (84 x 49cm) by AW Dear with leather straps and brass lock plate, marked on the lock plate and with a label inside for AW Dear, is offered together with a large leather suitcase by the same maker (92 x 52cm) and another vintage suitcase.
