Opportunity to buy original art and sculpture at auction

A rare opportunity to buy works of art directly from an artists’ studio is coming up next week.

Abstract drawings

W&H Peacock's studio sale of the late artist Tim Threlfall (1940-99) includes more than 100 works such as this set of six abstract drawings of heads dated 1963 during Threlfall's Dutch studies. They are estimated at £200-300.

The contents of the studio of the late Tim Threlfall (1940-99) will be offered on February 18 at W&H Peacock in Bedford.

According to Art UK, the sculptor, painter, photographer, printmaker and teacher from Hertfordshire, he spent time in Germany in the early 1960s and then travelled to the Netherlands.

After a short time with the sculptor Shinkichi Tajiri (who had trained with Ossip Zadkine and Fernand Léger) he later studied with sculptor Henry Moore.

More than 100 works are included in the auction spanning the sculptor’s career from the 1960s-90s.

Here is a selection of the items in W&H Peacock’s Mid Century Design sale.

Grey stone sculpture

Among the many sculptures in the sale is this 2ft 7in (77cm) grey stone sculpture, c.1969 is guided at £600-1000.

 

Marrakesh sculpture

This grey-stoneware sculpture c.1984 called 'After Marrakesh Suite of Works' following Threlfall’s visit to Marrakesh in 1984 is estimated at £400-600

 

Marble sculpture

A white-marble relief modelled as a nude abstract female form c.1989 and estimated at £1000-1500.

As well as sculptures there are a number of studies, drawings and watercolours (including above top).

Tim Threlfall studies

Among the sketches are these four pen and ink conceptual studies of sculptures, signed dated May 64. It is estimated at £200-3300.
