1. John Maltby sculpture
Royal Barge, a stoneware sculpture by John Maltby – estimated at £250-350 at Lockdales.
The sale at Lockdales includes a group of works by John Maltby (1936-2020) consigned by one of his friends. The Lincolnshire-born sculptor studied at Leicester College of Art and Goldsmiths’ College in the 1950s before working with well known potter David Leach in the early 60s. His figures of warriors, kings, queens and angels are often derived from pieces of tribal art.
This stoneware sculpture titled Royal Barge is signed, titled and dated '2014' to the wooden base. It is estimated at £250-350.
