1. For him: Tag Heuer Diver

A men’s Tag Heuer quartz diver stainless steel wristwatch, pictured above, is on offer at Chiswick Auctions on December 3.

The model, Professional 2000, was part of series of diver watches that the maker produced from 1982 onwards and was one of a number of models that came to define the Tag Heuer.

This example has a signed movement and dial, as well as a black leather strap.

It is estimated at £100-200.

2. For her: Cartier Mini Panthère

Cartier Mini Panthère – estimated at £2500-3500 at Dreweatts.

Cartier’s Panthère range has always been highly regarded for the distinctive design and sophisticated look. Such watches have been much sought after since the range first appeared in the 1980s.

An attractive example of a Cartier Mini Panthère from c.2000 (ref. 1131) is on offer at Dreweatts on December 8.

The lady's 18 carat gold and diamond bracelet watch is accompanied by a Cartier box and is estimated at £2500-3500.

3. For him: Omega De Ville Co-Axial

Omega De Ville Co-Axial

Omega De Ville Co-Axial – estimated at £1800-2000 at Nesbits.

The Omega De Ville Co-Axial represented an important development in watch-making when it first appeared in 1999. It was the first wristwatch with a co-axial escapement that could be manufactured in large numbers. It also had a modified self-winding movement called a Caliber 2500.

An example of this watch is offered at Nesbits on December 16.

The 18ct gold watch with two-tone silvered dial comes with its original lined and branded box, instruction manual, warranty cards and hang tags.

It is estimated at £1800-2000.

4. For her: Hermès Clipper

The Hermès Clipper was first released in 1981 and has been a flagship model in terms of watches launched by the luxury high-fashion brand. It’s a watch that still exudes class and style today.

An example with a circular stainless steel case and light blue leather strap is on offer at Woolley & Wallis on December 9-10. It comes with a maker's case and has a 7-jewel quartz ETA movement.

The estimate is £400-600.

5. For him: Classic Rolex

9ct gold Rolex precision wristwatch – estimated at £500-800 at Rogers Jones.

Watches such as the elegant Patek Philippe Calatrava remain an expensive purchase if you’re buying from a retailer. But auctions often provide an opportunity to buy a pre-loved example for less money.

The Calatrava is regarded as one of the most elegant of Patek Philippe’s designs and it has stood the test of time superbly. Newly made examples can easily retail at over £15,000.

An example from the c.1990s is among the watches being offered at Chiswick Auctions on December 3.

The 18ct yellow gold automatic wristwatch has a black leather strap and 18ct gold buckle and comes with a Patek Philippe brown pouch.
