Banksy screenprint features among the Modern and Contemporary art at Grand Auctions next sale
16 February 2022 Fully authenticated Banksy screenprints have been popping up at auctions outside London with ever greater regularity.
‘Bomb Hugger’, a Banksy screenprint estimated at £20,000-30,000 at Grand Auctions.
One of the latest is a copy of Bomb Hugger which will be offered at Grand Auctions in Folkestone on February 21.
Released in 2003 as part of a protest against the invasion of Iraq, the print was released in editions of 600 unsigned copies and 150 signed. The example in Folkestone which comes from a local collection is one of the 600 and, crucially, comes with a certificate from Banksy’s authentication service Pest Control.
Measuring 2ft 4in x 19.75in (70 x 50cm), it is estimated at £20,000-30,000.

Pub picture
‘The Baker's Vault or The pub with the Vicious Dog’ by Alan Lowndes (1921-78) – estimated at £3000-5000 at Grand Auctions.
Also at the Grand Auctions sale is a painting titled The Baker's Vault or The pub with the Vicious Dog by Alan Lowndes (1921-78).
The artist sent home paintings from Italy after the Second World War that were much more traditional in style but in the later 1940s he became almost expressionist in style, something he learned from working for Julius Frank and his much bolder designs.
The title refers to the dog kept by the landlord of the Baker's Vault pub that used to bite customers. The 18 x 14 in (46 x 36cm) signed oil on canvas from 1948 is estimated at £3000-5000.
