Around the colour wheel: stunning highlights from the George Farrow collection at Roseberys

He lived from 1916-2001, through the age of mid-Century modern decorating and minimalism, but his tastes were for more ornate pieces. More than 550 of the historic, intricate and colour-drenched works that filled his home are on offer at the sale at Roseberys on June 4.

Here we look at a few of the works with the most striking hues going under the hammer next week.
This large pair of Chinese baluster vases richly glazed in copper red date to the late Qing dynasty (the late 18th century). They are further enhanced by early 19th century French ormolu mounts, and have an estimate of £5000-8000.
Against a wonderful yellow silk ground, this 18th century Italian silk embroidered fragment features birds perching among blossoming flowers and scrolling foliage. Guided at £300-500, it is offered with a later mount.
Estimated at £400-600 is this pair of French gilt-bronze and cobalt blue glass candlesticks made in the Louis XVI style but in the late 19th century. Each is modelled as an urn issuing rose branches surmounted with a single sconce.
This Boet Fleurier, silver gilt, enamel and pearl-set duplex watch, c.1840, has an estimate of £5000-8000.
This early 19th century Italian specimen marble and micromosaic table attributed to Giacomo Raffaelli has an estimate of £25,000-35,000.
