Brooches come in many shapes and sizes, and some of the most striking are novelty examples formed as animals such as butterflies, birds, tigers and many others.

The fashion of wearing a brooch has made a welcome return in the jewellery market in recent times. A lot of attention was generated by the brooch worn by Baroness Brenda Hales in October 2019 when she delivered her verdict in the UK’s Supreme Court on Boris Johnson’s ‘unlawful’ prorogation of Parliament. Across social media users were asking: ‘Where did she get that spider brooch?’

Fellows’ Fine Jewellery sale on January 30 includes some eyecatching animal brooches. Below is a selection of six examples on offer at the sale.
