His works are comparatively rare, though Peries was a significant figure founding the ’43 Group, a south Asian Modern art group, and representing Sri Lanka at the Venice Biennale in the 1950s. His works are held in institutions such as the V&A and Imperial War Museum.
The selection of 18 works on offer at the gallery for £2500-30,000 comes from the collection of David Coates, a civil servant who ended his career as chief economist for the department of trade and industry.
